Nelson meets his namesake!

Nelson at HMS Victory

Nelson, a member at Waterlooville Day Services in Hampshire, achieved a long time ambition recently when he visited HMS Victory at the old dockyards in Portsmouth.  Nelson enjoyed looking around the ship and saw the plaque marking the spot where his namesake fell!

Welcome support from Petersfield Round Table

Enjoying a hydrotherapy session

Petersfield Round Table have helped to ensure that hydrotherapy sessions for members of On Track day services can continue, thanks to a very generous £500 donation.

The warm, buoyant water, calm atmosphere and one-to-one support enable people with physical disabilities to enjoy a degree of freedom and mobility that they do not have ‘on dry land’.

A big thank you to everyone at Petersfield Round Table!

The Kew Society supports Silver Birches

The Kew Society's £1000 donation

Dawn, Natasha, Anne and Adam, all residents at Silver Birches  in Richmond, were delighted to accept a very generous £1,000 donation from The Kew Society.  Michael Glazebrook, Chairman, presented the cheque and met several of the residents and some members of staff.  He said, “The Kew Society is very pleased to be able to make this donation .  It’s good to know that the money will benefit people living in the local community.”

Silver Birches’ Manager, Bose Ogunlolu, said, “We’re extremely grateful to The Kew Society for this wonderful donation, which really will make a big difference to the people we support here at Silver Birches.  We’re going to use these funds towards installing a fully automated entry system to the flats, which will give residents a far greater degree of independence.”  Many of the residents at Silver Birches use wheelchairs or have mobility difficulties.  The new system will mean they’ll no longer have to rely on others to help them come and go through their own front door; something that has understandably, been very frustrating.

A big thank you to The Kew Society for this very kind gift!

Petersfield Golf Club

Petersfield Golf Club members have enjoyed a year of fundraising by holding a wide variety of events to support the  Captains’ chosen charities.  A competition to guess how many golf balls would be found in the course’s lakes by divers (over 1,000Petersfield Golf Club 1 were retrieved!), various quizes and raffles (to which 30 other Golf Clubs donated prizes), all helped to contribute towards funds raised by the Club in 2009.  Elizabeth FitzRoy Support has received a very generous gift of £1,797.  This will be used to help purchase new  IT equipment for the Petersfield Disability Resource Centre, making computer technology accessible to all the members through specialist hardware and software.

Our sincere thanks go to all those involved in the Club’s fundraising efforts.

New Cars for Vernon Close tenants

Linda, Rachel and Louise are able to get out more, and enjoy going to college or the shops, and visiting friends and family.

The cars are funded through the Government’s Motability scheme which promotes independence and choice to disabled people who receive full mobility allowance.
