Sensory World

We launched Sensory World in 2006 to fill the gap in provision of age-appropriate, educational and fun websites for adults with learning disabilities.

It is a free, inclusive, exciting, innovative and relevant site to visit.

Based around a virtual house, visitors can easily navigate from room to room to find different activities and things to do, for example, health and safety in the kitchen, or planning your weekly meals and budget.

There are over 2,000 visits to the site each month, many from overseas. Feedback is regularly left and we are now developing Sensory World to meet people’s needs and wishes for further activities to be added. One such request has been to “personalise” the site so individuals can “save” their work as they go and not have to start anew each time they visit. As an exercise is completed, so a certificate can be printed off.

A sensory garden will be added, following the great success of the sensory room page. This can be customised with different themes, effects, noises etc and has been, by far the most popular page.

Support workers often use the site to help with budgeting exercises, meal choices or health and safety around the home. These activities will all be developed to allow more personal choices to be added, and so make the exercises more relevant to each person.
