Speaking out
We want the people we support to take an active role in making decisions not just about their own care and support, but in how our organisation is governed and managed.
Our regional and national service user forums speak out on behalf of every individual we support, making sure their concerns and suggestions are listened to and acted upon.
We also have two groups of service users who are delivering disability awareness training to new staff. These are “Bright Sparks” based at our Day Centre in Fakenham, Norfolk, and “The FitzRoy Team” from the Trafford Community Day Services.
Service users are also supported to take part in the recruitment of staff, including senior management. A group from the National Service User Forum interviewed prospective candidates for the Chief Executive role in 2008, and subsequently for the role of Finance Director.
