Mark putting up herbs at horti Local Petersfield company, Purple Foodservice Solutions Ltd, (PFS), have once again given us their kind support with a very generous donation of £1,425. £1,000 is going to be used towards the start up costs of our new Rural Skills Project at East Meon, in Hampshire, with the remainder helping towards the purchase of equipment to aid independence for tenants at one of our supported living services.

PFS continue to help the people we support in many different ways, not only financially, but also by giving their time and friendship, which is equally valuable.

Thanks to the Community Matters scheme currently being run by Waitrose, tenants at our supported living service in Fleet, Hampshire, are to benefit. Using the token voting system, customers at the Fleet store have helped to raise £260. This will enable the service to further enhance their garden, which received a make-over this summer.

A similar project in Petersfield received support through the Community Matters scheme around this time last year. We are very grateful to Waitrose for their support to us and other local charities.

Learning Disability Today exhibition in London   Posted on: 3rd December 2009

Exhibition Elizabeth FitzRoy Support exhibited at last month’s Learning Disability Today exhibition in central London.

This is a major annual event for the learning disability sector, where commissioners, users, families and prospective staff and volunteers go to find out about specific providers and their services across the country.

Many of the stands are inter-active, demonstrating equipment and services available to users. Others concentrate on attracting new clients or informing potential employees of opportunities across the sector.

We demonstrated Sensory World, which always proves an attention-grabber, and also promoted the new rural skills project and supported volunteering.

The Cottage in Liss has a New Garden   Posted on: 5th October 2009

Garden in Liss People living at The Cottage, a care home in Liss, are really pleased with their re-vamped garden. Partly funded by a resident’s family and local PR company, Shilling Communications, the garden has seen a dramatic face-lift during the summer. After weeks of landscaping work, a group of around 20 employees of Shilling turned up one Friday afternoon in late August to add the finishing touches – mainly cleaning the new areas, painting and planting up the raised beds, building benches and weeding the garden beds.
Kate and Sarah, who live at the Cottage, were quick to get out and enjoy the new patio area. The residents are looking forward to a celebratory bbq once the spring weather comes.

The New Huw’s is Ready   Posted on: 5th October 2009

Celebration party at Haw's Residents at Huw’s in Nottingham are at last enjoying their new home.
The old house has been transformed into two modern apartments and the residents love the new look. They have had to put up with 2 years of noise, disruption and being moved around while the work continued.
A celebration party was held on 10 September and many friends, supporters, families, staff and local groups attended. With a Caribbean theme, the sun shone to order and the whole day was spent in the garden with live music and a selection of delicious Caribbean food and tropical punch to drink. The site was decorated with a beach, garlands, pretend palm tree with monkey on it, and lots of balloons.
John Williams cut the cake and congratulated everyone on achieving so much at Huw’s. The home is named after his son, Huw, and John was the very first Chair of Trustees and a close friend of Elizabeth FitzRoy.
